A couple of close friends got married recently and were excitedly opened their wedding presents. Their excitement soon dissipated as they opened box after box of  pudding bowls, sets of glasses, crockery and dinner plates.

Galileo Thermometers – A novel idea for a Contemporary Wedding Gift.

They were in this state of mind when I dropped by to see how things were going. They were just about to open their last gift and suddenly their expressions changed from weary defeat to eager anticipation. The gift was a Galileo Thermometer. From the outside it looked like weird glass cylinder filed with liquid and colorful bulbs inside. But what made it interesting was that the bulbs were constantly moving, adjusting to the temperature. None of us were science buffs but it looked unusual enough to warrant a ‘what’s that’?

The Galileo Thermometer (click to view online) got pride of place in their new apartment and was the starter of many conversations in the following months.

And what happened to all those pudding bowls and dinner sets?

I’m guessing they’re very shortly going to find their way into another young newly weds’ home through the widely popular ‘Gift Recycling Process’.
